Events	Sentinel-Record, The (Hot Springs, AR) - Sunday, March 9, 2003 JOHNSON, Kan. – Galard C. Lane, 68, of Johnson, Kan., died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born May 15, 1934, in Garden City, Kan., to Leslie Orval "Speck" and Minta Marie (Rorick) Lane. Galard graduated from Kansas State, taught one year in Colorado and went back to his main love of horse racing, which started as a child with his parents. He met his wife, Pat, in 1987 at Oaklawn Park and they have been together since 1988. Galard was a great companion and a good friend. His philosophy was, "It's better to give than to receive." He loved his stepchildren and stepgrandchildren very much. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Janice Dorr. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Lane of Hot Springs and Johnson, Kan.; stepson, Greg and Wendi Kokemueller of Hot Springs; stepdaughter, Debbie and Joe Lijewski of Hot Springs; brother, Galen Lane of Johnson, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Lindie and Dakota Kokemueller and Kirby Newcomb, all of Hot Springs. Memorial services are 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Oaklawn race track chapel with Pastor John Beyer and Chaplain Gary Stinson officiating. There will also be a memorial service in Johnson, Kan., on Friday, March 14, 2003, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Glenn Fogo officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Dale Kincheloe, Jake Kincheloe, Don VonHemel, Jerry Calvin, Tom Pryor, James Logsdon, Gerald Dixon and Ray Oetken. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Johnson State Bank, P.O. Box 130, Johnson, KS 67855. Cremation is under the direction of Caruth-Hale Funeral Home.
