Jerry Jones Obituary

Jerry Lee Jones, 78, of Johnson, Kansas. 9-9-1943 – 11-18-21.
The fifth child born to Harold and Georgella Jones; raised in a sod house ¼ mile east of his lifetime farm, southeast of Johnson.
After graduating from Johnson High School in 1961, he attended Southwestern College on a football scholarship for one year, then Fort Hays State University. He returned to help on the family farm for a time; taking over responsibilities in 1968 when his father passed during a farming accident.
Jerry met his beautiful future wife, Sandrale Pauline (Pollart) from Holly, Colorado on a double date. While they were each paired with another person, they quickly found they only had eyes for each other. They married on July 4th, 1963. (Sandy picked the date so Jerry wouldn't forget it.) After the small service, Jerry put back on his work clothes and headed out the door, forever the farmer.
From that day forward, Jerry and Sandy worked side by side, creating a farm and a family to treasure. Jerry and Sandy have been married 58 years strong. They raised three children: Tamara, Curtis, and Julie.
Jerry lost a piece of his heart when his daughter Tamara died in 1995. He gained multitudes of love, however, by raising her three children: Brittnee, Connor and Cambree. His wife Sandy said those three not only kept them on their toes but kept them young. And most importantly, helped a little in the pain and loss by watching them grow.
Often a quiet man . . . however, if you sat down at his kitchen table, the conversation would be lively. He was a contemplator, pondering nonstop. Never was this displayed more than in planning a trip: He would pull out his desk-size Rand McNally to plot the trip, complete with several highlighted route options.
The travel included driving—not flying—chasing kids and grandkids all over the country; from California to Florida. Under duress, he did fly to Canada with Curt and friends for a fishing trip; also to Las Vegas with Sandy and friends.
Although he kept promising he would, Jerry never retired. He continued to farm and raise cows until the end. He loved to fish and never really took a vacation unless that activity was a part. Usually, these vacations were accompanied by one of his best friends, Ron (and Fran) Grover and their family. He was a huge fan of KU Basketball and about any other sport or activity his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids participated.
He was unendingly proud and devoted to his kids (3), grandkids (11), and great- grandkids (13). His love for his family was the utmost of importance to him. His son, Curt, can be quoted as saying, "Dad was the strongest, meanest, most compassionate man [he'd] ever known." Jerry had high standards and expectations. He believed in being true to his word and yours; and that a handshake sealed the deal.
Jerry passed away due to COVID-19 at Advent Health in Shawnee Mission, Kansas; surrounded by the loving arms of his family. He will forever be in our hearts and will be missed every day.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandrale (Pollart) Jones. Children: Curtis Jones and wife Maryll, Julie Jones-Nutz and husband Matt. Grandchildren: Brittnee (Stanton) Alcala, Mick Owens, Adam Owens, Connor Stanton, Jaquita Lennon Chaffin, Taylor Jones and wife Kayla, Benjamin Owens and wife Audrey, Cambree (Stanton) DeGroot and husband Travis, Devin Moore, Allison Jones and Emily Jones. Great-grandchildren: Wesley, Reese, Parker, Beckham, Aston, Sebastian and Collin Owens; Aspen and Atlas DeGroot; Scarlett and Mattis Alcala; Damien Chaffin; William Lytle. Sisters: Betty (Jones) Drew, Gwen (Jones) Barrett, Nancy (Jones) Banuelos and husband Octavio; sister-in-law Pat Jones.
Jerry is preceded in death by precious daughter Tamara. Parents: Harold and Georgella. Brothers: Lowell and Keith. Sister: Cindy. Brother-in-law: Charles. Nephew: Kevin. Neices: Rita, Tina and Georgia Dawn.
A private family memorial is planned to celebrate his life.
