About Richard Adolph Vogle, 75, of Saucier, was called to rest Saturday, October 6 after a 15 year battle against cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Trenton & Josephine Vogle, and a sister, Betty Vogle Davis.
Richard was born and raised in Saucier, where he graduated from Success High School. His family encouraged him to complete college and he graduated from Perkinston Jr. College, University of Southern Mississippi with a BS in Secondary Education, MS in Educational Administration and William Carey College with an MS in Mathematics.
He served two years in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a radio technician at an Army base in Hawaii.
After his release from the Army he began a 31 year career as a math teacher and school administrator with the Jackson County School System at St. Martin School. He was a math teacher at Lyman Elementary grades 7 & 8 and Harrison Central 9th Grade School where he completed his education career. He received numerous educational leadership awards, but what he most prized was the knowledge that he sparked the love and understanding of math in his students.
Richard was Past Master of J.L. Power Lodge #416 F.&A.M., Perkinston a member of Perkinston Chapter #376 O.E.S., Scottish Rites of Masonry and a Shriner.
He was an active member of Poplar Head UMC, Saucier where he served in various church leadership positions. His knowledge of the Bible was shared in Sunday School and the Poplar Head Men's Bible Group.
He served on the board of the Perkinston Wesley of the Perkinston Campus of MGCCC. One of his greatest joys was assisting in the building and the completion of "The Barn" at Perkinston where the college students can gather for strengthening their faith in a special positive environment.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed life-long hobbies of hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was an accomplished woodworks man, a skill he learned from his father. His special talents are seen in projects in family homes, Poplar Head UMC, Saucier UMC, and "THE BARN" at Perkinston.
Richard is survived by his brothers, Calvin Vogle (Muriel) of Saucier and Alton "Ray" Vogle (Susan) of Leaksville and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who are left to cherish his memory of the special and ordinary days they shared. He taught many lessons to them but the most important ones were how to accept the challenges of life and not be defeated, trusting always in their Lord and Savior and living that faith each day.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 11, 2007 at the Poplar Head UMC, 13196 Poplar Head Road, Saucier at Burial will be in Blackwell Family Cemetery.
