Derek was a bright young man, actually a child, still enjoying life when it tragically ended. Derek enjoyed all sorts of sports, and kept quite busy. Derek was also an active boyscout. His favorite sports team were from the University of Michigan. Derek had a long life ahead of him when he was diagnosed with Leukemia in January of 1991. Though he was on the slow road to recovery and showing many signs on improvement, God had other plans. Derek is greatly missed by his family and was severly missed by his cousin Erik, who joined him on August 15, 2002. Derek is buried at South Bingham Cemetary near his mother, Janice (Jaquish) Bancroft.
