About	fter a courageous struggle with cancer, Pat Hontos died on December 16 at Quiet Oaks Hospice surrounded by her family. Pat was born in 1949 to the late Robert and Marjorie Thienes in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She earned her bachelor’s degree at St. Cloud State University and her master’s degree at Southern Illinois University. She married George Hontos in 1977, eventually returning to St. Cloud where she lived until she died. She dedicated her professional life to the protection of the vulnerable, assisting individuals with disabilities and mental-health challenges and administering social-service programs in Anoka, Morrison, and Stearns counties. Family, music, travel, laughter, and books were central to Pat. Pat is survived by her husband, George; her two sons, Alex (Hayley) & Christopher; her two grandchildren, Leo and Ari; her brother Dick Thienes (Colleen); and her sister-in-law Pam Thienes. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Bob and Ronnie. A memorial service and gathering will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Cloud at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday January 3, 2026. All are welcome. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to Quiet Oaks Hospice, Doctors Without Borders, and Minnesota Public Radio.
