About	On the night of July 26, 1987, 21-year-old Steven Bechtold was jogging north on Hwy 75 in Stearns County when he was hit by a northbound, mid-1970s model, blue Ford pickup. Steven was jogging from the Clearwater Days celebration where he was with some friends, to his car which he had parked at the American Legion in St. Augusta earlier in the night. It is highly likely that whoever struck Steven with the pickup was a friend of his. Tire marks on the shoulder of the road seemed to indicate the driver has swerved as if to "scare" Steven. Furthermore, whoever struck him got out of the vehicle and repositioned Steven's body and folded his arms across his chest. Steven was still very much alive at the time, and it's possible that he spoke with the person who hit him. Sadly, the driver took off without notifying anyone. Steven's body was not discovered for several more hours, and he died at the hospital. Had the driver sought medical help that night Steven would probably have survived his injuries.
