Roger Lyle Cook
Age 74

Roger Lyle Cook, 74, of Mizpah, MN died unexpectedly in his sleep on
Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at his home.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 11:00
A.M. at the Gemmell Community Church in Gemmell, Minnesota with
military honors provided by American Legion Post #499 of Northome, MN.

Roger was born July 13, 1947 in Graceville, Minnesota to Lyle and Hazel
(Braness) Cook. He moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota as a child, attending
St. Cloud Cathedral and St. Cloud Technical High School, graduating in
1968, and then entered the U.S. Navy, where he spent 2 years in Nevada.
He married Marge Olson in Waite Park, Minnesota on January 8, 1971.
After discharge from the Navy, he attended St. Cloud Technical School,
graduating in 1975. They moved to Cohasset, Minnesota in 1976 and lived
there for 5 years and then moved to Gemmell, Minnesota where they built
their home. Roger worked for the Boilermakers Union #647 until his
retirement in 1995. Roger was a member of the Gemmell Community
Church where he rang the bell for the church services, the Northome
Legion Post #499, the Northern MN Metalsmith’s Club, the Midwest Knife Makers Guild, and the Lake Itasca Pioneer Farmers. He enjoyed blacksmithing, making knives, hunting, fishing, attending Rendezvous (black powder shoots and camping in teepees from the 1800 era) and spending time with his family. Earlier in his life he also enjoyed trapping and skinning.

During Roger’s last years, you could find him in his shop making knives. Because of his back pain he could no longer do blacksmithing, and fortunately found a passion for making knives. He made sure every one of them was near perfect before it could leave his shop. He was a dedicated and excellent craftsman.

Roger is survived by his wife, Marge of Mizpah, MN; 2 sons, Jason (Jennie) Cook of Becker, MN and Craig (Angela) Cook of Hoyt Lakes, MN; a grandson, Jacob Cook and a granddaughter, Jaimee Cook, both of Becker, MN; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Hazel Cook, and a sister, Sharon (Cook) Henkel.
