| About | Diane Elizabeth Huggins Born: Oct. 2, 1942; in St. Charles Died: Jan. 12, 2009; in North Aurora NORTH AURORA - Diane Elizabeth Huggins, of North Aurora and formerly of Elburn and Canton, Ill., passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at her residence after a hard-fought battle of nearly four years with pancreatic cancer. She was born Oct. 2, 1942, in St. Charles, the daughter of William and Viola (Olsen) Shimas. She married Eugene Huggins June 2, 1962, and they spent 46 wonderful years together. They both loved to travel and, despite her illness, she traveled extensively with Gene and their grandchildren. Together Diane and Eugene intensified their travels, traveling back to England, four trips to Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and a Baltic Sea cruise. They also made many trips crossing the United States while her husband served the Loyal Order of Moose as supreme governor. She also enjoyed collecting antiques, and would find them wherever they were. She took great pride in caring for her yard. Diane was a loving wife mother and grandmother. Watching her grandchildren play sports and band gave her great pleasure. During her struggle with cancer Diane always had high sprits and was an inspiration to the people who knew and loved her. She lived her life following her own acronym PAC, meaning prayers, attitude and chemistry. She was a member of Batavia Chapter 722 Woman of the Moose, a life member of Delnor Hospital Auxiliary, and a long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles. She had also attended Wiley Lutheran Church while they lived in Canton, Ill., and is a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia. She is survived by her husband, Eugene; her two children, Debra Weinlader of Sandwich and Joel (Amy) Huggins of Leland, Ill.; four grandchildren, Michelle and Stephen Weinlader and Caleb and Norah Huggins; and a sister, Connie. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31) in Batavia.
