Upon graduation, I attended Lincolnland Community College for one year. During that time, many of my classmates were being drafted into the army. I enlisted into the Navy, took basic training at Great Lakes north of Chicago. One year of reserve then active duty for seven years. I served during the Vietnam War (1970-1975). My training was in ships' propulsion, engineering, air conditioning & heating. I also trained in maintaining and rebuilding diesel engines. I received the Navy's "E" award for engineering excellence. Stationed on mine sweepers and submarine tenders. Two years on shore duty, Charleston, SC. Discharged honorably in 1978.
