William Paul Schmid passed away on August 13. 2026 at home with his beloved wife Dor Walker by his bedside.
Bill was born to Ella and Ralph Schmid in 1950 and grew up in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, graduating for Springfield High School in 1968 and attending St. Joseph’s University. After school, he worked at Sunroc Corporation and owned and operated a residential painting company.
He became interested in photography as a teen and converted a small storage room in his parents’ basement to a dark room while still in high school. After he retired, his hobby became his avocation. He began posting his work to fine photography internet sites early in this century and developed a large a loyal following most recently on Facebook. His work has been featured in art galleries domestically and around the world.
Friends have remarked on Bill’s striking resemblance to one of his favorite actors Henry Fonda. Not just physically, but also in his bearing and character. Bill was quiet, reserved, and times seemingly aloof. That apparent coolness marked a deeply emotional and loving man who careddeeply for friends and family.
Bill became acquainted with his future wife Dor, also a talented photographer, on Picassa. The met in 2010, married 2011 and shortly thereafter moved to Murphy, NC in the Great Smoke Mountains. Bill is survived by Dor and his brother Jay and sisters Eileen
