Jan Johansen
Class of 1975
Army, 41 Years
Enlisted December 11, 1974 on the delayed entry program as a 35B Electronics Instrument Technician and left active duty service in December 1980.
In 1982 joined the 234th Army Band as an 02J Clarinet.
Moved up the ranks and served as First Sergeant (1SG) for 7 years. Took administrative reductions to allow others the opportunity to lead.
Have been on concert tours through Australia, New Guinea, Guam, Panama, as well as the States of Hawaii, Texas, and Oregon performing on clarinet, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, keyboards, percussion, and vocalist.
Retired in 2017.

3 Meritorious Service Medals
2 Army Commendation Medals
3 Army Achievement Medals
Numerous State of Oregon Awards including 40 year faithful service.

Graduated basic training June 2006. Graduated Electronic Warfare school June 2007.
Reported to first command USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) stationed out of Pearl Harbor July 2007; received Iraq Campaign Medal.
Participated in RIMPAC 2010. Completed two deployments.
Reported to USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) August 2010 stationed out of Virginia Beach. Deployed for third time for nine months.
Reported to shore duty Navy Information Operations Center in San Antonio December 2012. Received Joint Service Achievement Medal.
Voluntarily and honorably discharged June 2015.

In '84 to '85 I went to fortbeing Georgia for bootcamp training and came back to Eugen Oregon for my Army National Gaurds 169 infintry 11 Brovo across the street from the Univerisity of Oregon. In 1987 moved to Seattle were I served for the Delta Company in Washington state.

Our Sprague High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done! Not everyone gets to come home for the holidays and we want our Sprague High School Military to know that they are loved and appreciated.
