Class of 1969 meets during 2014 all school reunion
Let's try this along with out Thanksgiving greetings and safe and fun travels:
Graduating with 35 classmates, the Spearville High School Class of 1969 gathered at the new high school / gymnasium on May 23 with 10 class members in attendance to celebrate our 46th reunion. Attending were Marie (Castillo) Capps, Spearville; David Kane and wife Janice, Dodge City; Marilyn (Schulte) Kolbeck and husband Lyle, Spearville; Phyllis (Laudick) Butts, Minneola; Carolyn (Sanko) Hendricks, Manhattan; Dennis Schawe, Spearville; Wayne and Nancy (Atwood) Schomaker of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Michael Schulte, Universal City, Texas; and Joe Urban and wife Sheila, Dodge City.
Not able to attend were Phyllis (Riggs) Corporon, Neosho, Missouri; Mark Arensdorf, Flagler, Colorado; Trudy (Deckert) Winsor and husband Ron, Caney (Tyro), Kansas; Linda (Helfrich) Dermyer and husband Thomas, Lakewood, Colorado; Nancy (Overstreet) Page, Memphis, Tennessee; Dwight Tully and wife Kathie, Salina, Kansas; Susan (Duesing) and husband Larry, Tucson, Arizona; Mary Lou (Heskamp) Kocak and husband Gerald, Centennial, Colorado; Darlene (Kane) Byrum and husband Dean, Grove, Oklahoma; Larry Mages, Clifton, Colorado; Charles Mark McMillan, Arvada, Colorado; Jane (Sanko) Cox and husband Wayne, Scottsdale, Arizona; Susie (Stegman) Barragree and husband Gene, Kansas City, Kansas; Patsy (Stewart) Savage, Brownwood, Texas; Stephen Vierthaler and wife Peggy, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Larry Hornung, Spearville; Jack Burke and wife Brenda, Spearville; Leroy and Carlene (Kolbeck) Linnebur, Satanta, Kansas; Margie (Schawe) Combest, Dodge City; and Diane (Durler) Muncy, Dodge City. Two of our married couples—Wayne and Nancy, and Leroy and Carlene—are all members of the class.
?We had some of our classmates passing through or in the neighborhood but other commitments did not allow them to attend. Dwight Tully and wife Kathie, Salina, Kansas were in the Dodge City area for a wedding in the family. Susan (Duesing) Dillon and husband Larry had been in Spearville the night before but had to continue on to a commitment in Kansas City on Saturday. Linda (Helfrich) Dermyer and husband Thomas had a commitment in Hutchinson, Kansas on the same day as the reunion.
?We still are fortunate to have the company of some of our parents—Dennis and Dorothy Duesing, Edith Mae Giessel, Eleanor Linnebur, and Lawrence and Erma Vierthaler, all residing in Spearville; Ed Durler, Dodge City; Betty Salyer, Ashland, Kansas, and Norma Stewart, Brownwood, Texas. Dennis Duesing was recognized as the oldest alumni attending the festivities. Unfortunately, Angie Mages passed away earlier this month.
?In our memories are Ronald Salyer (deceased 1990 and buried in Ashland, Kansas), Walt Giessel (deceased 1996 buried in Spearville); Mary (Klenke) Hornung (deceased 2000 and wife of Larry, also buried in Spearville); and David Brumbaugh (deceased 2009 and buried in Protection, Kansas). These classmates also left behind spouses and children: Ron had two sons, Walt had a son and daughter, and David had one daughter and two sons. Mary left behind three sons. Also in our memories are some of our classmates’ spouses, in addition to Larry’s wife Mary Klenke: Don Corporon, spouse of Phyllis Riggs; Dirks Combest, spouse of Margie Schawe; Bobbie, spouse of Denny Schawe; Kermit Capps, spouse of Marie Castillo; Sarah Ann, spouse of Mark Arensdorf; and Roy Page, spouse of Nancy Overstreet.
?Recapping our current residences, we reside in 7 states: Arizona (2), Colorado (7), Kansas (16), Oklahoma (1), Missouri (2), Tennessee (1), and Texas (2). Prior to the reunion, 23 of our classmates found each other digitally through the email. We have 5 of our classmates who served in the military—Mary Lou Heskamp, U. S. Navy, Charles Mark McMillan, U.S. Air Force; and three in the U.S. Army: Susan Duesing, Joe Urban, and Michael Schulte. A number of us have claimed retirement while others are semi-retired, still working, or contemplating retirement.
?Here’s wishing all our classmates and families best wishes. Thank you from all of us in the Class of 1969 to all those who made it possible to have the 2015 All School Reunion. We realize, appreciate, and value all the time and effort spent on making this all school reunion memorable. We are looking forward to 2020!
