Doctor, husband, father, and grandfather, Maurice Roland Hanson of Jupiter, Florida died on October 31, 2016. A true and humble gentleman, Dr. Hanson was a respected neurologist for 40 years with the Cleveland Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic Florida. He earned his medical degree from the University of Utah in 1965 and did a medical residency at Parkland Memorial in Dallas, Texas. While in Texas, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force in Wichita Falls A.F. Hospital. Dr. Hanson completed his neurology residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio before joining the Cleveland Clinic. When the Cleveland Clinic opened in Florida in 1988, Dr. Hanson was the first Medical Director and one of the founders. He moved to Naples, Florida in 2000 to join the newly established CCF where he again served as a Medical Director. He completed his long career with the CCF in West Palm Beach and retired in 2012.

Maurice Hanson was born in Spanish Fork, Utah on March 10, 1940 to Roland and Uda Hanson. He was the much beloved husband of Elizabeth Evans Hanson, father of Adam Roland Hanson of Atlanta, Jennifer Hanson Bloom of Orlando, Amy Hanson Gomes of Atlanta, and Matthew Emerson Hanson of Ponte Vedra, Florida.

In addition, he was father-in-law to Lorraine Pucci Hanson, Gregory Weldon Bloom, Michael Jeffrey Gomes, and Gene’ Hope Novak. He is survived by his grandchildren, Erik Roland Hanson, Katherine Marian Bloom, Lindsay Elizabeth Gomes, Brooke Carolyn Bloom, Matthew Evans Bloom, Ryan Hanson Gomes, Samuel Novak Hanson, Kevin Anthony Hanson, Alexander Emerson Hanson, and Tyler Russell Gomes.

A memorial and celebration of a truly wonderful man and a life well lived will be held in January with details to be announced.

The Hanson family is deeply grateful to the staff at New Day Adult Care Center in North Palm Beach, Hospice of Palm Beach, and the loving care of Luis Guzman, Norma Payne, and Debra Luchick.
