In my case it was a different war. It was called the "cold war". I served on nuclear fast attaxk submarines and what we did is still classified but in the end the USN submarie service is what broke the soviet union. I am proud to have served.

After graduating from the University of Oregon in 1970, I served as an intelligence officer in the United States Air Force. I entered active duty as a Second Lieutenant in September of 1970, and separated from the Air Force as a Captain in June of 1974. The highlight of my stateside service was my time as an intelligence officer with the U-2 reconnaissance program, including 6 months in direct support of the U-2 reconnaissance missions over Cuba from McCoy AFB in Orlando. Overseas, I was at DaNang Air Base in Vietnam when the ceasefire went into effect on January 28, 1973. In my five months at DaNang prior to the ceasefire, the base was struck by 187 rockets in 11 separate rocket attacks, including an attack the day before the ceasefire that resulted in the last combat death of a U.S. enlisted man in Vietnam. In January of 1973 DaNang also suffered a “friendly fire” incident in which U.S. aircraft dropped thirty-four 500-pound bombs on the base three weeks prior to the ceasefire. After the ceasefire in Vietnam, I relocated to Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base in support of the bombing campaign that continued in Cambodia from bases in Thailand. I was in Thailand for the end of that campaign in August of 1973, and then returned stateside to my final assignment at Shaw AFB in Sumter, South Carolina. After separating from the Air Force, I attended law school at the University of Texas in Austin. I then practiced energy and appellate law at two law firms in Dallas, Texas — 31 years with Strasburger & Price, followed by 7 years with Andrews Kurth. I retired in January of 2012.
