Laura Avice Garvey, 64, of Annapolis since 1974, died June 20 after a year battle with lymphoma at Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood.
Born March 5, 1945 in Kansas City, Mo., she attended Wakefield High School in Arlington, Va. She received her Bachelor of Science in Spanish, Italian Linguistics from Georgetown University, Washington D.C. and a master's degree in Counseling and Guidance from Bowie State University.
Laura taught for 31 years at Southern Senior High, teaching French, Spanish, Latin, and English. She was a part-time teacher of Spanish at Anne Arundel Community College for 24 years, retiring in 1998.
She was a active member of the Severna Park Bridge Club, ACBL and Regional master.
She enjoyed photography, travel, music, collecting Christmas memorabilia and playing Bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton R. and Lila J. Garvey.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 10, Noon til 1 p.m. at Hardesty Funeral Home P.A., 12 Ridgely Ave., Annapolis, MD 21401. A Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment was held at Woodfield Cemetery, Galesville.
Memorial donation may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403.
