About | Carter Nicely Obituary Dr. Carter LeMaster Nicely Tucson, AZ, Dr. Carter LeMaster Nicely, died October 20, 2006, after an eight week battle with cancer. Born September 4, 1947 in Winchester, VA he grew up in Germany and various cities throughout the United States following World War II as a part of a military family. Graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1970, he moved to Annapolis, MD assuming the role of an educator and mentor lifting the aspirations for students and colleagues alike during his 33 years of service. During his tenure as an educator, he completed work leading to his Masters and Doctorate in education from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. He retired in 2003 to travel and experience life and became passionate about his boxer dogs beginning the process of showing and breeding Champions. It fit well into his plans, as a boxer club became instant family in any city visited. His journey seemed to settle when he arrived in Tucson where he found peace and tranquility. He resumed teaching at nearby Pima Community College in Tucson, with a local boxer club providing roots and the Reveille Tucson Gay Men's Chorus rekindling a passion. Surviving are his brother, Christopher Lane Nicely, Chris' wife Shanda F. Nicely and nephews, Clinton Robert Nicely, Cody Franck Nicely and Christopher Carson Nicely of Knoxville, TN, and friend, Alan Kelly Tucson, AZ with many other wonderful friends throughout the country. The memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday November 11, 2006 at The Holy Way Presbyterian Church, 4221 W. Ajo Way, Tucson, AZ 85746 with the Reverend Ray Thomas, officiating. |

Dr Carter Nicely,
Beloved Teacher, Mentor, and Lifelong Inspiration
Some teachers simply teach the material.
Great teachers—like Mr. Nicely —teach us how to think, how to care, how to believe in ourselves, and how to never stop learning.
He left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students, not just through lessons taught in the classroom, but through the wisdom, encouragement, and kindness shared with everyone lucky enough to know him.
Whether it was a quiet word of support, a spark of humor in a tough lesson, or the steady presence that reminded us we mattered—Captain Carter was more than an educator. He was a life-changer.
