Jim Calhoun, 53, died suddenly on March 3, 2010, at the home of a dear friend.

Born in Wilderville, Ore., on Nov. 2, 1956, Jim was raised in Salem. He moved to Ashland to attend Southern Oregon State University, and earned degrees in general studies and accounting.

He is survived by wife, Lori, whom he married in 1985; siblings, Bob Gibbs, Carolyn Calhoun-Shirley, Marvin Calhoun, and Tom Calhoun; and his many friends and fellow musicians.

Jim lived for music. His participation in jazz, bluegrass, and musical theater as a bassist earned him glowing accolades and measureless notoriety. Many will always remember the exceptional skill, style, warmth, and humor he brought into the Rogue Valley's musical community.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at the SOU (Southern Oregon University) Music Recital Hall at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, March, 14. For more information, visit www.caringbridge.org/visit/jimcalhoun

John Arnold
Class of 1971
Passed May 16, 1985
A great boy who fought asthma his whole life. His family, mother and twin brother loved him dearly.

His life was ended early and even to this day i remember having his slide ruler that bears his name. Unfortunately after keeping it by my side for 45 years it was lost in a move.

His spirit was all over South Salem.

We will always remember him. My mother Pat was a close friend of his mother and his loss was sad to us all in our family.

John Miller
John Miller
Class of 1971
Passed May 16, 1972
John passed away at the age of 18 at college in a swimming accident, and the world lost a wonderful soul as he was a childhood friend and a person who touched the hearts of all who knew him..

I spent many years with John when we were on the Salem Swim and Tennis Club Team

He was a top level diver, award winning swimmer, top knotch skiier and partipated like many of us in all high school activities..

John was a wonderful boy from a loving family, who in high school developed early into a wonderful man....many of us think of him especially now...

It won't be long until our 50th anniversary, but he will never be forgotten by all of at South Salem High.
