At South High School, Danny was drum major for the marching band. Currently Director and Curator, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, Washington, DC. Formerly Director of Folk and Traditional Arts at National Endownment for the Arts. Ph.D in Ethnomusicology from UCLA. Expert in ethnic music of Mexico and Latin America. Professional musician for over 30 years, specializing in Mariachi music. Author: Mariachi Music in America (2005: Oxford U. Press).
