About Me	I was elected as Treasurer of the City of South Gate in January, 2003. Both my family and I have enjoyed living here and seeing our community grow and progress. I choose to attend San Diego State University, where I majored in both Finance and Political Science, with a minor in International Conflict Resolution. While in college, I witnessed and experienced many of the same struggles that most college students face as they wrestle with financial and academic struggles while acclimating to life as an adult. I decided to become a role model and mentor for students like myself by becoming a student advocate, working on issues of retention, class affordability, educational diversity, out reach and student life. In addition, I would return to South Gate High School on a regular basis to promote the rewards of higher education. I'm currently working on my M.B.A. with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting at the University of Southern California. I began my financial career as a junior staff accountant for a local bank. I quickly worked my way up to achieve a position of Business Development Officer , where I was responsible for obtaining new clients and maintaining account efficiency and maximization of their portfolio with low to moderate risk for over 250 corporate clients worldwide. I currently hold the position of Staffing Manager for Robert Half International where I ensure top quality Accounting Professionals for business ranging from Fortune 500 Companies to small business in the LAX / El Segundo and South East Los Angeles Area. In the past 2 years since I was elected I have accomplished a variety of things. Every promise that I have made I have kept. With the help of the State Controller's office and federal authorities I successfully audited the policies and procedures of this city which helped the City Council fix the problems that were facing this city. This intense audit assisted the City Council to litigate and win money that was wrongfully taken form the city's treasury. I have reduced the City Treasurers Office operating budget to a savings of over $300,000 in the two years that I have been in office. I have worked with the new interim director of finance to introduce a new investment policy that allowed us to maximize our operating income earnings and reduce risk to this city's portfolio and eliminate any conflict of interest that might exist or could possibly exist. In the transition of the former finance director to the new interim finance director, while working together we were able to uncover over $3miilion of funds that were intentionally hidden from city officials which prohibited us from truly being able to provide the level of service that the residents of South Gate deserve. In the 2 years I have been in office I have worked hard and made the City Treasure's Office a true asset to this city. I have the energy, experience, track-record and drive to truly serve the community of South Gate.
