Bill was such a caring soul. We stayed in touch and always remembered each other's birthday.

William Allen Workman Obituary
January 9, 1946 - February 13, 2024

William Allen Workman (aka Bill or Bapa) passed away peacefully at Norfolk General Hospital on Tuesday, February 13th at age 78 with his loving family by his side.

Bill was born in 1946 and raised in South Charleston, West Virginia. After high school he joined the Navy Reserves. Four years later he married his high school sweetheart Patricia, graduated from Morris Harvey College with an accounting degree, and received his Navy Commission. He moved to Rhode Island for a year, and then to Norfolk where he served active duty. He eventually settled in Virginia Beach where he raised his family. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1988 with the rank of Commander, and continued to work hard as an accountant for the next 30 years.

Bill cherished spending time with his family and grandkids, and in his spare time enjoyed fixing things in the garage, relaxing with a movie, and cruising the Caribbean with his wife and friends. Sharing conversation over a cocktail (or ‘snortel’ as he would say) was a consistent pastime. He always had an entertaining story to share and a knack for making people laugh. He was smart, sarcastic, and full of priceless one-liners. He was reluctant to smile in photos but smiled readily when there was no camera in sight.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Patricia, children Chris (Erika) and Michael (Jamie), grandchildren Ryan and Callie, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Gertrude & Elmer Workman. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel. A reception will follow at the home of Chris and Erika. In lieu of flowers you can make donations to Virginia Beach Rescue Squad or Hope for Life Rescue .
