About	William Edward Matte of 121 Doolittle Lane, West Wareham, MA, passed away on 4/23/2016. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Giblin) Matte and by his four children: William E. Matte, Jr. and his wife, Peg, of Wheaton, IL; Timothy M. Matte and his wife, Joanne, of Portsmouth, NH; Christopher J. Matte and his wife, Kim, of Conway, NH; and Judith L. (Matte) Newell and her husband, Donald, of Norton, MA. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. William was the son of the late John B. Matte and Julia (Hill) Matte, and the brother of the late John C. Matte. William taught school at Somerset High School for 34 years before retiring in 1988. In his youth he was very active in sports and was inducted into the B.M.C. Durfee High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986. He played minor league baseball prior to enrolling in Fitchburg State Teachers College. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in Germany.
