Graduation Year Class of 1967
Date of Passing Dec 05, 2020
About Gerald Vincent Shahdan, 71, of Assonet, MA, died December 5, 2020, at his home in Assonet, MA, after struggling with kidney and internal organ issues on and off for many years, he succumbed to a short battle with lung cancer. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife, Joan Shahdan (Berube) and their three daughters. Gerry was born July 14, 1949 in Fall River, MA to Kaiser and Josephine Shahdan (Swidey). He grew up in Somerset, MA and graduated from Somerset High School as a member of the Class of 1967. Gerry would go on to attend the US Coast Guard Academy for two years and would finish his Civil Engineering degree from UMass Dartmouth in 1972. After meeting his bride to be, Joan, at Horseneck Beach, they married and for 46 years raised their family together. Gerry supported his family by being self employed as a general contractor. He helped countless people construct anything from a small addition to the home of their dreams. People often reached out to Gerry for his guidance, patience and leadership. In April 2005 he was in a life changing motorcycle accident. While his way of life was greatly altered, he was granted 15 additional years with his family. He took this opportunity to expand his educational knowledge and went into home design. Gerry took advantage of this time by focusing on his family, especially his pride and joy grandchildren. Although limited to a wheelchair, no medical issue held him down or diminished his spirit. He loved social gatherings and had the ability to tell great stories. Everyone was welcome at Giddoos pool for a quick swim, Lebanese meal or life lesson. A cherished father who is survived by his daughters Coreen Mitschele (Douglas), Kate Latour (Peter) and Jessica Muldoon (John). He will be dearly missed by his six grandchildren Alexandra and Amber Mitschele, Lucy, Edy and Mack Latour and Henry Muldoon; and countless nieces and nephews. Loving brother to Marion Digiammo, Pauline Finlaw (deceased), Richard Shahdan, Ann Muller and Deanna Michalowicz.
