About | Nelson Rebello a beloved teacher and soccer coach to hundreds, a mentor to many and a friend to all, died suddenly on February 19th, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton surrounded by his family. He was 88. Born November 19, 1932 to parents Angie and Joseph Rebello, Nelson was born and raised in Taunton. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed in Germany at the end of the Korean War. Upon returning home, he attended Fitchburg State College and graduated with a BS in Education and received his Masters in Education from Bridgewater State College. His first job was teaching mechanical drawing and shop at Somerset High School. He met the love of his life, the late Edna (Lavezzo) Rebello in college and they married on July 1, 1961. Shortly before they wed, he was hired at Sharon High School where he taught mechanical drawing until his retirement in 1995. He also served as the JV and Varsity soccer coach for many of those years. After Ednas death that was in 2013, Nelson remained in Sharon where he lived for nearly 60 years. He was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish and the Sharon Mens Club and particularly enjoyed their bocce tournaments. He often traveled to visit his daughter in Pennsylvania and one of his favorite excursions was in early 2019 when he traveled to Cambridge, England to attend his granddaughters MPhil in Physics ceremony. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Harper and her husband Lee Harper of Downingtown, PA, his grandchildren Angela and Thomas Harper, his sister-in-law, Elsie Goodwin and several nieces and nephews. |
