About Nancy H. Simoes – 57, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Thursday, November 27, 2014. Born in Fall River MA on March 9, 1957, Nancy was the daughter of the late M. Wesley Hoole and the late Helen (Grady) Hoole.

Nancy is loved and mourned by her husband of 27 years, Steve Simoes of Waterbury Center; their children, Julia Simoes of Waterbury Center and Joe Simoes of South Burlington; her sister, Andrea Earls of Hampton VA; her brothers, Paul Hoole and his wife Helen of Slingerlands NY, Rick Hoole and his wife Susan of Littleton MA, Tom Hoole and his fiancé Laurie Simard of Chelmsford MA; her sister-in-law Barbara Simoes of East Middlebury, VT as well as 10 nieces and nephews, 7 great-nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Nancy was a 1975 graduate of Somerset (MA) High School. She continued her education, graduating in 1979 from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth) with her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and then received her Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Vermont.

Nancy had a passion for public service and thrived when presented with a challenge. She began her professional life as the Associate Director of the Upward Bound Program at Johnson State College. In that capacity, she worked to assist potential first generation college students from low income families with their academic and personal development and achieving their goal of attending college. Nancy then began a long and successful career with the State of Vermont, holding many positions of leadership. Her most recent position was Professional Development Administrator at the Agency of Human Services. Nancy also worked as an instructor with the Community College of Vermont and St. Michael’s College. She retired this year. She was truly loved and admired by her many colleagues.

Nancy will be remembered first and foremost for her love of family and unwavering commitment to being the best mom, daughter, sister and life partner possible. She held a special place in her heart for her children, whom she loved “to Pluto and back.” Nancy loved being by water of any kind and the ocean in particular - one of her favorite places in the world was Ocean Park, ME. She was artistic and enjoyed drawing, photography, playing guitar, singing and song writing.
