About | Normand J. LeComte, 92, of Somerset passed away on Tuesday February 18, 2014 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Jeanne D. (Methot) LeComte. Normand was born in Fall River the son of the late Welliston and Marie (Suprenant) LeComte. He was a graduate of Somerset High School class of 1940 and then attended Providence College. Mr. LeComte served his country with the United States Coast Guard in the Asia Pacific Zone during WWII and was awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal. Normand purchased Ideal Laundry in Fall River which he operated for fifty-three years. While operating the laundry he returned to Providence College and earned Bachelor of Arts degree at the age of seventy. He was the past president of the New England laundry owners and the Fall River Chamber of Commerce. Normand was the past director for Bank of New England. He served on the board of the USS Massachusetts, the Fall River Marine Museum, the United Way and Big Brothers. Mr. LeComte was the past chairman of the Cancer Drive for Somerset, and the Saint Anne’s Hospital Endowment Committee. He was the past commodore of the Somerset Yacht Club, a member of the Somerset Kiwanis Club, and the Fall River Musicians Union. Normand founded the Fall River Ski Club and was its first president. He was the president of Ski Flight Inc. and a co-founder of the Ski House in Somerset. Mr. LeComte was a communicant of Saint Louis De France Church and was a 4th degree with the Knights of Columbus. He also organized the first swing band at Somerset High School. Survivors are two daughters: Helene “Tobi” Russell and her husband Timothy of Kingston, MA; Melanie M. Bissonnette and her husband William of Somerset, MA; four grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew, Timothy and Peter; a great granddaughter: Tayla Jeanne; a sister: Aline Potvin of Somerset, MA; two brothers: Robert LeComte of Somerset, MA and Paul LeComte of Fall River, MA; along with several nieces and nephews. |
