About | Thelma Herrin, 89, of the Shopville community passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born March 27, 1917, to the late Robert "Bob" Hayes and Nancy "Nannie" Bobbit Hayes. She was a retired schoolteacher. She taught at several one room schools Woodstock, Miller, and Gilmore. She also taught at Somerset Central and Shopville elementary and was a member of Flat Lick Baptist Church and taught Sunday school there for many years. She was a member of the D.A.R. and the Pulaski Historical Society. She graduated from Somerset High School Class of 1936. She attended Cumberland College, University of Kentucky, and graduated with a B.A. and M.A. from Eastern Kentucky University. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Ruth Kittinger, San Antonio, Texas, Nelva Anne Herrin, Shopville, and Carol Sue (and Ed) Fisher, Cabins, W. Va.; two brothers, William "Bill" Hayes, Camby, Ind., and Raymond "Roy" Hayes, Somerset; a grandchild, Adrienne Kittinger, San Antonio, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Danielle Fisher, Ft. Scott, Kan., and Joel Fisher, stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; caregivers, Shirley Randall, Ethel Bradley, Raymond Graves, and Betty Isaacs. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lem Garland Herrin, whom she married on Jan. 2, 1945, in Somerset; her parents; and a brother, Robert "Bob" Hayes. |
