Ohio State Champion heavy weight wrestler in the 1962-1963 season was DENNIS MEGYESSY !
Dennis was undefeated all season and won four straight matches at St John's arena to bring home Solon High's first State Championship wrestling trophy. At that time, all schools competed together. There were no "divisions". So he was the uncontested, BEST wrestler in the State of Ohio.
Dennis is the younger brother of Dave Megessy, (the one who wrote the book that was highly critical of the NFL) All American lineman for the Syracuse University football team, the National College Champions in football, and later became middle linebacker for the St Louis Cardinals. His fellow lineman at Syracuse was Roger Davis, another SHS alumnus who later played in the NFL for the Chicago Bears.
To my knowledge, the first ever Ohio State Championship sports trophy awarded to a SHS alumnus was in pole-vaulting in 1959.

Milkovich was only the third high school coach ever to be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, and his Maple Heights Mustangs captured ten Ohio State Championships and finished runner-up eight times.
This book chronicles Tom Malkovich's bid to win a third state title, and the wrestler who stood in his way was Solon's Bryan Oswald. There are anecdotes and stories about this, and also former coach Walt Porowski and other area wrestlers.
