Peace Corps, 20+ Years
I was not in the Peace Corps, but had to check it because there is, inexplicably, no option for war resister.
I was (and remain) a war resister. I decided in the spring of my Senior year ('67) when I was going to turn 18 and had to go down to the draft board to register, that I would not be participating in the war machine that was murdering Vietnamese and other Indochinese people just trying to free themselves from foreign domination. I burned my draft card before being arrested and jailed at the Pentagon during the big Mobilization march in Oct. '67 and sent the ashes to my draft board. As I didn't ask for a student deferment, I was eventually called up, went to the Induction Center in '68, raised a huge stink handing out fliers about rights to other inductees, and was dumped with a 4F as "undesireable." I continued actively opposing the war until it ended, and joined the celebration in '75 in NYC's Central Park.
The photo shows me (front right, back turned) at the '67 occupation of the Pentagon Mall, just before my arrest for "trespassing"
