Wanda Carol Golden Lirette
Class of 1984
Director of Options Staffing Solutions, Carol Golden-Lirette, was an award winner twice, first at the Lafourche Mayors' Committee on Disabilities Fourth Annual Awards Ceremony, in which she garnered the Distinguished Merit Award, and again was honored by Governor Bobby Jindal with the Louisiana state award for Distinguished Merit at Governor’s Office of Disability Affairs GOLD Awards held on Tuesday, December 8 at the Old State Capitol Building, Baton Rouge.
Lirette was nominated for her work in securing employment opportunities for persons with disabilities, being instrumental in getting closed captioning in the Palace Theater in Houma, LA, promoting People First language, and for writing the proposal and business plan, which resulted in Options for Independence of Houma being awarded a $350,000 grant to implement Options Staffing Solutions.
Options Staffing Solutions is an alternative staffing organization that is also a Social Enterprise, which puts profits of the staffing agency back into providing social services for the community. Currently there are only about 35 of these types of staffing organizations in the United States and Canada.
Carol has been an active advocate for disability awareness and the employment of persons with disabilities for years, first working as a volunteer with organizations in her native state of Alabama, and later in helping establish the offices of Lighthouse for the Blind in Houma, LA. Carol is currently serving her fourth year on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs and has served this past year as the first Chairperson of the Terrebonne Parish Committee on Disability Affairs.
