Susan Jane Stackman Black
Class of 1970
Graduating in 1970 sent me straight to SRSC. First semester, 3 art classes, midterm 3 F’s. End of semester 3 art classes with Bs. Sue was now an El Ed major! Graduated in 73 in El Ed, Early Childhood. My plan was to attend Westminster for 1 year and be certified in Art. Sam Drake and I were planning on an upcoming wedding, he died tragically in Sept. 73. I decided to teach. Was hired in SR and moved 7 miles down the road to Mercer. Should have stayed in SR, but I do return!
Meet my husband, marry, build a house, have 3 children. 2 biological sons and adopted a daughter from Guatemala. Our house waxes and wanes with exchange students, college kids, bonus children. Kyle graduates from App State, marries a girl from Lancaster and happily relocates. They have 4 children. Seth joins the Army, gets an associate degree in computer drafting. He marries the daughter of his kindergarten teacher. They relocate to Ohio and have 3
daughters. Alexandra marries. She and her husband, another Seth, have a farm in Barkeyville, three kids. She is a CNA.
Life takes many twists and turns. My brother, who my parents thought might not make it through high school is Dr. William Stackman, Chancellor at the University of Missouri. Never say never! My sister is in eastern PA, a retired librarian and teacher. After retiring with 41 years I was rehired at SRAHS as a long term sub in History! My dad would have been proud. Re-retired, drawing (they could not take the artistic gene away from me).
