| About | Marilyn “Bun” Hardacre Sell, 91, a lifelong resident of Skaneateles, passed away peacefully Nov. 19, 2025, at Crouse Hospital following a short illness. Born in Syracuse to Walter George and Edith Marion (Lewis) Hardacre, Bun graduated from Skaneateles Central High School in 1952 and from Lasell Junior College in 1954. She began her career as a lab technician in the pathology department at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital before devoting herself to raising her family. In 1961, Bun married the love of her life, Russel C. Sell. She was a devoted communicant of St. James Episcopal Church and longtime volunteer at the St. James Thrift Shop. Known fondly as “the mother of Highland Ave.,” Bun created a warm and welcoming home for her family and neighbors. She cherished her trips to Anna Maria Island, FL, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and – perhaps most of all – sitting on her porch with a glass of wine, taking in the simple joys of life. Bun was predeceased by her parents and by her husband, Russel, in 1997. Her greatest love was always for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children Debbie Sell, Cindy (Chris) Case, Mindy (Joe) Bathgate, and Eric Sell, all of Skaneateles; six grandchildren Aimie Case, Michael (Kevin Quinn) Bathgate, Kimberly (Conor) Case, Nicholas (Shannon) Bathgate, Thomas Sell, and Ally Sell; her sister Carolyn (Roy) Lootens of Skaneateles; many nieces and nephews, including Scott (Liz) Lootens and Douglas (Sarah) Lootens; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gouhnour of Roaring Spring, PA. Calling hours were held on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at B.L. Bush & Sons Funeral Home, 10 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service was held on Monday at noon at Burrows Chapel in Lake View Cemetery, Skaneateles. A reception followed at the Skaneateles Fire Department. |
