About | Arthur Johnson Barton Obituary Arthur Johnson Barton passed away on October 28, 2023 at the age of 81 years. Art was born in Winnipeg on October 11, 1942. He developed a love of the outdoors at the family’s cabin at Ingolf from the time he was an infant and into his 70’s. Art and Marg enjoyed many years at the camp, always busy with cutting firewood, repairs, improvements and enjoying the peace and solitude. They especially enjoyed the noisy long weekends with the kids and grandkids. Art enjoyed camping, canoeing, cross country and downhill skiing, cycling and hiking and was a member of several organizations that promoted these pastimes. He passed on this love of the outdoors and of being active onto his children and grandchildren. Art graduated from the University of Manitoba and started his mathematics and computer science teaching career at Miles Mac and then at Glenboro Collegiate. He retired from the Department of Education, Infotech, in Winnipeg. He spent his retirement years taking care of the cabin at Ingolf with Marg and enjoyed travelling to Cuba, Mexico and Vancouver. He is survived by his wife, Marg, of 28 years, his children Brian (Kelly Scallion) and Kathy (Dave Lushney), his grandsons, Scott (Julie Desrochers), Cam (Caitlin Fennel) and Matthew Lushney, his great grandson Quinn, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Gail & Ray Brown as well as his 5th floor canine friend, Harley. In accordance with Art’s wishes there will be no funeral service. The immediate family will hold a small private service. The family would like to pass on their appreciation and gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Poseidon Long Term Care Home for taking such good care of Art over these last few months. If a donation in Art’s memory is desired, please consider the Winnipeg Humane Society. |
