Graduation Year Class of 1968
Date of Passing Aug 29, 2008
About RON BURNS It is with deep sadness that on August 29, 2008, with his wife and daughters at his side, Ron passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 31 years Jan (nee Windatt); daughters, Shannon and Courtney, mother, Bernice, brother, John and sisters, Pat (George) and Shelly (Dave). He was predeceased by his father, John; his grandparents, Mike and Mary Matychuck, Anne and John Procopchuck and his in-laws, Bill and Dusty Windatt. Throughout Ron's courageous five year battle with cancer, he stayed strong because of his wonderful sense of humor and the unconditional love and support of family and friends. Things Ron enjoyed, his beloved San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers and the Toronto Maple Leafs, playing baseball, being at the lake, nature, watching thunderstorms, long one-on-one talks with his daughters, evening tea, sitting with his wife reading books, good music, Canmore trips, being an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on, watching his youngest daughter play ringette, sharing an inside laugh with his eldest daughter, a good home cooked meal, being surrounded by friends and family, SPAM nights and the spamers , big family holiday get-togethers, a cold Keith's beer on a hot day, the curling rink, his thirty-three years of working as a probation officer, reading the newspaper front to back, long walks with his wife, telling good stories and telling a good joke (or a bad one, depends on how you look at it). Words cannot express our appreciation for the kindness of the many doctors and nurses involved in his care. Very special thanks to Dr. Michael West, Dr. Jeremy Lipschitz, Dr. James Johnston and Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk, as well as nurse Marisa Rodriguez, chemotherapy treatment room team (MacCharles Unit) and the staff at the Palliative Care Floor at the St. Boniface Hospital. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Ron's life will be held Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Church, 603 Wellington Crescent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E OV9. Neil Bardal Inc. 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
