About | JAMES ALEXANDER GAIR 1947 - 2025 James Alexander Gair, affectionately known as Jim, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, in his home in White Rock, BC surrounded by family. He courageously battled Parkinson’s for the last six years, and was recently diagnosed with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). Jim is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Colleen, his devoted daughters, Jaime (Chris), Kari (Bobby), Lindsay (Michael), and his adoring grandchildren, Alexa, Bailey, Leo, and Taylor. He is survived by his siblings, Darlene (Eric), Marj (Jim), Janice (George), Lorne (Jean), and predeceased by his parents, Allan and Violet, and his brother Tom. Jim was born on August 9, 1947, to Allan and Violet Gair, and he grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1969, and married the love of his life, Colleen in 1976. They welcomed three daughters in subsequent years, and relocated to Delta, BC in 1986. Jim was an entrepreneur at heart and he created and led many businesses including a 28 year tenure as owner of Tip Top Parts, a floorcare wholesale distribution company. Jim was well-respected as an employer, and in the business community. His passion, sense of humour, fierce determination, hard working spirit, and generous nature fostered many collaborative relationships and projects. Jim was a talented athlete and enjoyed wrestling in high school, hockey throughout his life until his 60s, running in his 40s, and golf in later years. He completed six marathons, and one of the highlights was running the Boston Marathon in 1989. Jim’s vivacious energy and his ability to engage on any subject created many lifelong friends. Jim and Colleen had a rich social life and together they enjoyed countless large family gatherings, frequent get-togethers with friends, motorhoming, boating, and travelling, including many visits to Las Vegas and Palm Springs, and trips to Europe, Bali, Brazil, Hawaii, India, Australia, China, and Vietnam. Jim took immense pride in his family and worked tirelessly to ensure they were well looked after. Among his greatest achievements were his four grandchildren, and he had a special and playful bond with each. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled in those who knew him, and the lives he enriched through his guidance and mentorship. Jim’s kindness, generosity, and love for his family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. We celebrate a life well-lived, and a man well-loved! A celebration of his life will be held at Westfield Country Club in Surrey, BC on Friday, April 25 at 1:00 p.m. As published in Winnipeg Free Press on Mar 01, 2025 |
