About BARRIE WILLIAM ROMANOFF B. Com Hons C.A. Peacefully surrounded by his loving family Barrie W. Romanoff passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 52. He was deeply loved, cherished and respected and will be sadly missed by his wife Karen; daughter Jennifer (Devin) son Michael (Candice) his father Bill; mother Joan; sisters, Jill (Mike, Janine), Shelly (Mark, Dylan, Kevin) Auntie Jeanne (Dave, Paul), Uncle Morris (Shirley), Uncle Eric (Caroline, Victoria, Elizabeth) brothers- in-law, Ted and Jack Hykaway and their families. He will also be missed by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Barrie was predeceased by his brother Paul; and mother-in-law Kathleen Hykaway. Barrie was born January 20, 1951 in Winnipeg. He grew up in the North End, attending Robertson, Andrew Mynarski and Sisler High Schools. In 1973 Barrie graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelors of Commerce Hons. Degree. In 1975 he began his career as a Chartered Accountant. Barrie enjoyed most of his career working in the public sector where he served with integrity and dedication. He made many friends and earned the respect of his colleagues. Together with his best friend and soulmate Karen, he raised two beautiful children, Jennifer 24 and Michael 20. Whom he loved dearly. Barries family and friends meant everything to him. He never sought fame and fortune but lived to love his family and friends. Family and friends could always count on Barrie for help whenever they needed it. Barrie enjoyed building things with his Dad and between them they could fix almost anything. Christmas was Barries favourite time of year. A traditional Christmas Eve family gathering at the Romanoffs always ended with attending church services at Westminister United Church. Barrie volunteered in the community by sitting on various committees for the Seven Oaks School Division, volunteering at Folklorama, the Pan Am Games and Aboriginal Games. Barrie loved working out at the Wellness Institute with Karen, taking walks at the Forks and spending time with his special friends Pat and Bruno Malis. Barrie left a void that can never be filled but we will cherish his memory, forever remembering his kind heart, expertise, wonderful sense of humour and warm smile. Barrie fought a courageous fight and we admired his strength and endurance as he struggled to stay with us. Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Koven, Dr. Lysack, Dr. Maksymiuk, Dr. Chakowsy, Dr. Bow, Dr. Rubinger and the wonderful nurses and assistants at the Seven Oaks Hospital, Health Sciences Centre and CancerCare for their care and compassion during Barries final days. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Barries life will be held on Wednesday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Glen Eden Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will follow immediately after the service. A private family interment will take place later that day.
