About | RONALD PAUL WOWK Born: January 30, 1965 Date of Passing: July 24, 2023 The Wowk family announces the passing of our beloved brother, father, and grandfather, Ron Wowk, on July 24, 2023, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg due to cancer that Ron courageously fought for six years. Ron was born in Winnipeg on January 30, 1965, and joined his older brother Brian as an adopted son of Paul and Adina Wowk (nee Tober). He grew up in the North End, attending Margaret Scott, Isaac Newton, Sisler, and R.B. Russell schools. He married his school sweetheart Donna Smolak, and they had two sons, Ryan and Dustin. Ron worked in the transportation industry, including driving locomotives as a hostler for CP Rail, and driving long haul trucks for A-way Transportation all over North America, east and west to both oceans, and south to Florida and the California border with Mexico. He later settled into local trucking for Meyer Brothers in Winnipeg. Like his father and his sons, he enjoyed fishing and summers spent at Manitoba lakes and beaches, especially Winnipeg Beach and Selkirk. He had a passion for stock car racing and spent his last years building a race car in his garage that he watched his son Dustin race for him the month before he passed. He was predeceased by his mother, Adina in 1991; and father Paul in 2001. He is survived by his former wife Donna; sons, Dustin and Ryan (Jasmine); and grandchildren, Ethan and Adison of Winnipeg. He’s also mourned by his brother Brian (Deb), of Corona, California; dear family friend and “stepson” Jimmy Lacy; his uncle John Tober; and many cousins. Cremation has taken place. The family wishes to thank the staff of CancerCare Manitoba and Health Sciences Centre GB2.
