| About | Marilyn Kowalchuk KOWALCHUK, Marilyn December 5th, 1956 - March 14, 2018 It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Marilyn Kowalchuk, mother, wife, and friend extraordinaire after a two-year illness with ALS. Marilyn was born in Winnipeg. She attended Sisler High School and went on to earn a first degree in Mathematics from the University of Manitoba and then a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Music. She moved to Toronto with the love of her life Ron and worked there for Ontario Power Generation as a nuclear-plant project engineer. Later they returned to BC to both work at the University of Victoria where Marilyn coordinated the Engineering Co-op Program. Marilyn was a founding member of LUNA Ukrainian Folk Trio and the musical guru for her friends Olga and Pati-Ann. Motria joined in 1996 and Slawka in 2014. In 1996, Marilyn's pride and joy Anna was born. She grew into a fine young lady and under Marilyn's guidance developed a love of all things in nature. Marilyn was always a caregiver. She was a Brownie leader for many years and helped and took care of her husband when his MS worsened over the next decade. She was always concerned with the welfare of others. Marilyn was an intellectual with an amazing memory for the interesting and obscure. A conversation with her was never boring. Yet she was grounded, down-to-earth and guided by common sense. She had a depth and strength of character that showed in her relationships with others and as she carried on through her illness. Marilyn is survived by her husband Ron and her daughter Anna. Also by her brother Steve Kowalchuk (Christine, Jordan) of Winnipeg, sister-in-Law Sharon Wasik (Carly, Jamie and Sam) of Dauphin and Aunt Stella Kowalchuk of Sandy Lake. A tribute page has been set up for Marilyn where you can leave memories, tributes and condolences for the family. http://earthsoption.com/tribute/details/1601/Marilyn-KOWALCHUK/obituary.html#tribute-start In lieu of flowers please send contributions to the ALS Society of Victoria at Victoria Chapter of the ALS Society of BC, PO Box 48038, 3511 Blanshard Street, Victoria, BC V8Z 7H5.
