About | Alice Mary Falk (nee Gervais) 27 Jun 1951 - 13 Jun 2023 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Falk (nee Gervais), age 71 years of Winnipeg, MB. Alice passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Health Sciences Centre, having been admitted to the hospital three weeks prior. She will be sorely missed by her loving husband of 50 years, Harold, their children Kris and Kim (Shane), stepson Peter, and their 5 grandchildren (Alarra, Katie, Cooper, Emma, and Rylan). Alice also leaves behind 10 brothers and sisters; Roland (Barb), Julie, Romeo (Gisele), Ida, Maurice (Anne), Denis (Dianne), Jules (Alexa), Mary Anne (Gerry), Louise (Denis) and Ted (Michele), her father-in-law Peter Falk, sister-in-law Barb Bernshine, and their families. She was predeceased by brothers John and Gerald, and parents Ted and Irene. Alice was born on June 27, 1951 in Winnipeg, as the youngest girl to a large French family. In her early years they lived in the Corydon area where she attended St. Ignatius School. Her family later moved to the North End of Winnipeg, where she graduated from Sisler High School. It was there that she met the love of her life, Harold, and he, not only becoming a part of her life, also quickly became part of the Gervais ‘clan’. They were married on August 25, 1973 and started their life together in the North End of Winnipeg. When they were ready to start a family, they moved to the Osborne area and finally settled in South St. Vital to raise their children. Alice was very dedicated to her children, always supporting them throughout their highs and lows. Most of her career-life was spent working for the Fort Garry School Division as a secretary for the Transportation Department. Alice and Harold loved socializing with family and friends. And although Alice came from a very large family, they were all very important to her throughout her life. She loved keeping in touch with them and planning the yearly Gervais Christmas Gathering so she could be with them all. Alice and Harold also loved camping. For more than 15 years they would make Nutimik Lake their weekend and summer vacation home. Where family and friends were always welcome to join them and enjoy the lake with them. Their love of life would also quickly endear them to so many whom they would meet during their times at the lake, and who would become life-long ‘lake friends’. When Nutimik was no longer an option for them, they found a new summer getaway at Catherine Lake north of Kenora, ON, which they were still enjoying with family and friends, and new lake friends. Aside from the lake, Alice and Harold also enjoyed bigger travel adventures after their retirement. Highlights for them include trips to Australia, Belize, Greece, Spain, as well as many spots all across Canada and the USA, and their yearly winter trips to Bucerias, Mexico. When grandchildren came into her life, Alice found a new motivation and outlet to show her love of family. She even retired early so that she could be ready to be a grandma whenever she was needed! It was apparent to everyone that she loved her grandchildren very much and helped their families in so many ways. For example, she loved to babysit them and even stayed at her daughter and son-in-law’s house regularly, an hour away from her Winnipeg home, so that she could spend time with their children. Alice supported all her grandchildren in many other ways also, like in attending countless concerts, field days, and sports games where they enjoyed having her watch and encourage them. She loved playing with her grandchildren and talking with them, in other words, she loved sharing her love of life and joy with them! Alice especially loved shopping for anything her grandchildren needed! And Alice always made a point to share her love of the ‘lake life’ with her grandchildren also, by hosting them at their camp at least once every summer. Alice will also be remembered as an exceptionally caring person, someone who always seemed to be thinking of and taking care of others. Including her father-in-law, Bumpa (who always called her his favourite!). As well as many others who needed a strong and caring friend. And she had many special friends who were like family to her. Part of her endearing nature was that she loved having friends and family in her home. She always seemed ready to host a celebration or a family meal. And if she knew that someone who was coming for a meal would have a favourite food, it was very usually on the menu! In short, Alice will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at HSC SICU and especially Dr. Silvaggio for the special care given to Alice during her stay. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 22nd at 2pm at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the HSC Foundation on Alice’s behalf. |
