About | KERRY JAMES RAFFEY We are sad to announce the death of our brother and uncle Kerry James Raffey on February 2, 2023. He will be fondly remembered by his brothers, Bob and Rick(Sherry), nephews and nieces, Shannon, Brandy (Jeremy), Matt (Emma), Tim (Erin), Carly, Scott (Mellisa) and Nick as well as great-nephews and nieces, Keeley, Emma, Isla, Carter, and Brady. Kerry was born in Winnipeg on March 18, 1957 and attended Riverview and Churchill High Schools as well as the U of M to get his teaching degree. A lifelong resident of Riverview, Kerry grew up in the family home on Baltimore Road and eventually bought our grandparents house on Maplewood. Kerry began his teaching career at Sisler High School and then became the marketing teacher at Tec Voc High School. He ran the school store at Tec Voc which he renamed Stingers. He had his students involved in many entrepreneurship projects and practical business experiences. Every year he would form a team of students to plan a business startup. They would then compete with other schools in the International Career Development Conference run by DECA. Kerry had a great passion for coaching football and he spent many years working with hundreds of young men especially on the defensive side of the ball. He began with the Fort Rouge Packers in the late 70s and went on to make an impact with the Fort Garry Lions and the St. Vital Mustangs. He was also active in high school football with the Sisler Spartans and when he moved to Tec Voc, he became the Defensive Coordinator for the Hornets. During this time as a coach, he was a part of a few provincial championship teams. At one point he was coaching high school after hours and then Junior Football in the evening. Through his contacts with American coaches, he got involved with the annual "Coaches Clowns" parade on the 4th of July in Eveleth, MN. Kerry also loved his dogs. He had three Bull Mastiffs named Lunker, Bronco and Chopper. During Christmas and Spring Break Kerry would head to his condo in Belize and a large part of the summer was spent at his cottage on the south end of Lake of the Woods. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Notification to follow. Publish Date: Feb 11, 2023 |
