About MORRIS (MIROSLAW) METRO SUBTELNY November 12, 1949 - May 26, 2018 It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved father, brother, uncle and great-uncle, Morris Subtelny on May 26, 2018, at Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 68 years, with his family by his side. Morris will be forever missed by his daughter Stephanie, brothers, Mike and Slawko, sister-in-law Jenny, cousin Stella, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Morris was predeceased by his wife Margaret, his parents, Andrew and Mary, his sister Stella (Steve), brothers, John (Virginia) and Harry, sisters-in-law, Olga and Emily, and brothers-in-law, Mike and Oscar. Morris was born on November 12, 1949 in Ethelbert, Manitoba. Following school, Morris farmed and worked various jobs before starting at Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting, where he met his beautiful wife Margaret in Flin Flon in 1972. They were married on October 6, 1973. Stephanie was born on September 1, 1974, and the family lived in Flin Flon until 1976, then moved to Thompson to work for INCO. They left for Winnipeg in 1977, where Morris enjoyed a long career with CP Rail until his retirement. Morris loved spending time with his wife and family, visiting family back home in Ethelbert and Flin Flon, gardening and yard work, and watching hockey and wrestling on TV. After his one true love Margaret passed away five years ago, he moved to back to Ethelbert for a quieter country life. He loved attending the National Ukrainian Festival every year. He made many dear friends and was an active member at St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Prayer service will be led by Fr. Frank Szadiak, CSsR, at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Yaroslav Strukhlyak at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ethelbert, Manitoba, followed by interment at Sts.
