About | JOHN W. COLBURN It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, John Wilbert Colburn on February 9, 2004, at the age of 62. John was predeceased by his father John W. Colburn Sr. in 1962, and mother Jean Colburn (nee Kawaza) in 1990. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Rosalia; son John; daughter-in-law Lisa; and two granddaughters, Chelsea and Meghan; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Born on August 19, 1941, in Winnipeg, John married his wife Rosalia, on November 30, 1968, who just celebrated their 35th anniversary. On June 1, 1969, his pride and joy, John (Johnnie) Jr. was born. John was involved in the community as a United Church youth leader, Young Boys Parliament, North-End YMCA Leader and hospital volunteer, just to name a few. He could also be found helping others during his many years of union involvement, where he served as President of UTU Local 351 from 1987 to 1998. John retired as a conductor with the CPR, after 27 years of service. Dad made many friends, as his outgoing personality, generosity, and talents attracted people to him, and will be remembered as, "everyones best friend." For most of his life, Dad took immense pleasure in singing and entertaining. Dad was a member of The Sherwoods, and a tenor in the Tri-Ads, who entertained audiences in Canada and the United States. The Tri-Ads were recognized in 1996, "For their significant contribution to the Winnipeg music scene, as being one of the pioneers of Rock N Roll." We love you Dad, and our memories of you will be forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, February 12, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave. Interment will take place at a later date.
