About BRUCE HENRY MCDONALD May 3, 1942 - January 12, 2017 Bruce passed away on January 12, 2017 at the age of 74 at the Sunrise Living Residence in Oakville, Ontario. Bruce is survived by his brother Jim (Susan), nephew Rob (Elaine), niece Allison (Ron), and their children, Katie and Jón Arnason. He will also be remembered by his loyal and caring friend Lori Crank and her family in Oakville and his good friends, Allan and Alma Kissner in Regina. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Kathleen and Jim. Bruce grew up in the north end of Winnipeg attending Sisler High School. He attended the University of Manitoba earning a Doctorate in Computer Science. Bruce enjoyed teaching university courses in his early years before settling into a lengthy career with Atomic Energy of Canada; both of which took him to many different parts of the world. Bruce enjoyed sharing stories from his trips to the Soviet Union, England, France and Ireland among others. Over the years Bruce enjoyed singing and performing in various plays, most notably at Rainbow Stage in Winnipeg. He had a love and appreciation for classic cars and was an avid reader of non-fiction. With his wealth of knowledge, Bruce appreciated stimulating conversations about many topics and often found pleasure in debating the merits of different viewpoints. He had a unique sense of humour and enjoyed a good laugh. Bruce never said no to a Guinness or two, a good steak dinner or a glass of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. In his retirement he developed an interest in model railroads and, in particular, the steam engine. Bruce was a private person. He was loyal, trusting and very generous to his family and friends. His annual road trips to Winnipeg, to spend time with his family, will be deeply missed and the memories treasured. Sadly, Bruce suffered a stroke in October of 2014, which he wasn't able to recover from. In his final years, Bruce was wonderfully cared for by the staff at Sunrise and by his dear friend Lori. In accordance with Bruce's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service was held on July 4 in Winnipeg with interment at Kildonan Cemetery.
