Graduation Year Class of 1959
Date of Passing Feb 14, 2010
About MARIAN WOLYNEC Peacefully with his family by his side, Marian passed away on February 14, 2010 at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 67 years. Marian is survived by his children Chris (Angela), Lisa Nykolaishen (Rob), John (Chantel), and grandchildren Liam and Noah. Marian was predeceased by his parents Emma Pelenski and Stepan Wolynec. Dad was born in Krynica, Ukraine in 1942. He immigrated to Canada at the age of seven with his parents and his cousin Marijka. Dad grew up in the North End of Winnipeg, graduating in the first class at Sisler High School. Although trained in the Reserves at C.F.B. Shilo, he chose a career in teaching, where he spent the next 31 years in the Science Department at Gordon Bell High School. After retiring in 1998, he became closely involved with the Kiwanis Group. Dad loved to spend his time fixing computers, gardening and wine making. He gained many friendships with those he helped with computers, accepting little as payment as he said his friendships gained were worth more. He would challenge Mother Nature by planting things like cantaloupe and Israeli peppers and succeeding in making them grow. He was always there for his family to lend a hand with home renovations or to share time with his grandchildren. Dad always maintained a positive outlook on life. Even during his illness, his concerns were for his family and their well being. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Kiwanis Group of Manitoba. The family wishes to thank the staff of Riverview Health Centre, CancerCare Manitoba and all the friends and visitors for their care and compassion given to dad and his family during his illness.
