About | PETER SMARZ Peter was born in Regina, SK on March 13, 1941 to Antonina and Peter Smarz. He died peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Hunter Memorial Hospital in Teulon, MB at the age of 73. Peter is survived by his wife Shannon; daughters Tara-An Tyndale (David), with son Ethan and step daughter Megan; Amber with son Morgan son Dustin (Genevieve) with children, Veronica, Hayden and Sophia. Also the Green kids, Sidney, Dawson, Jessica as well as Marlow. He also leaves his in-laws, Tammy King, Griffin Harper and Shaun Harper, all of B.C. He was predeceased by his parents. The family moved to Beinfait, SK for a period of time then moved to Winnipeg's North End. Peter started sneaking out to play hockey at age 12 and entered the workforce laying sod. He joined Winnipeg Police Force for a year then resigned to work at Advance T.V. He wasn't happy working there and joined the St. Vital Police force until amalgamation with Winnipeg. In the meantime he joined the Army Reserve in the Canadian Intelligence Corp. Can't tell you what he did or would have to shoot you. He met Shannon in the Army when he processed her fingerprints, they were married on April 20, 1968. Peter coached Midget and Juvenile hockey in St. Andrews and was coaching development co-ordinator for the Selkirk area. His teams won many championships. He was one of the founding members of the Aboriginal Justice Committee to represent the police force. He took courses to teach gym and swimming at the North Winnipeg YMCA, and built the family home in St. Andrews. Peter joined Interpol as a liason person, served on the Board of Directors for the Manitoba Society for Tourette Syndrome and St. Andrews Horse Association. So many thanks to Estrallita and Rose and doctors Zierath, Malik, and Cordova at the Heart Failure Clinic St. Boniface Hospital and the staff of Hunter Memorial Hospital and Doctor Loudon. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hunter Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Program, St. Boniface Heart Failure Clinic or Cancer Care. A Memorial Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gimli, MB on Thursday, February 26 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Harry Chuckry officiating.
