About INGE TASHE (nee HERKT) On Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre, Inge left us to continue our lifelong journey alone. She succumbed to Alzheimers, after a long nine year battle with this horrific disease. Her family will miss her deeply. She was a very special lady. Inge was born during the war in Berlin, Germany in 1942 to Paul and Irmgard Herkt. She immigrated to Canada in 1954. From a very early age she always wanted to be a teacher and in 1962, her dream came true when she landed her first teaching job in Clearwater, Manitoba. She moved to the Winnipeg School Division two years later and taught a number of years at Strathcona School. She married her high school sweetheart, Ernie, that same summer in August 1964 and over the next 25 years raised three beautiful children, daughter Barbara (Gerald) and grandchildren, Carolyn and Eric; son Norman (Tasha) and grandchildren, Nolan, Savannah and Murdoch; and her youngest son, David. She was exceptionally proud of her children and her grandchildren. From 1968 to 1971, she worked to put Ernie through school, until he could start his career in Education. She left full time teaching in June 1972 and a while later started to substitute in the Transcona Springfield School Division. She also found time to be a Brownie leader and she was an active member of the Maple Leaf Community Club Executive for a few years. With all this going on, she was still able to complete her degree in Education at the University of Winnipeg. Inge loved to travel, and she and Ernie, along with their children, were able to travel across Canada from coast to coast and to many of the U.S. states. She would often reminisce about the fun times in the trailer. She was an outstanding cook and not a holiday or family birthday went by without her preparing a fabulous spread for the family. When retirement age crept along, and more time on her hands she was able to travel to Europe with Ernie. The first trip was back to Berlin to revisit her old neighbourhood, and elementary school. This was a very special trip for Inge. The following year we embarked on a seven country tour of Europe. Inge and Ernie were also able to get away to the warmth of the south summer sun by travelling to Phoenix, Palm Springs and also spent seven weeks in Australia. Inge will be missed by her immediate family, her Aunt Trautchen here in Winnipeg, a cousin in Berlin, Germany and many friends. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre for their excellent care of Inge while she was their guest. A private family gathering took place on Thursday, January 1, 2009. This was followed by cremation and interment at the Glen Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, January 3, 2009. When a loved one becomes a memory, A memory becomes a treasure. Treasure the memories. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
