Graduation Year Class of 1963
Date of Passing Dec 19, 2003
About GREGORY HOWARD JACOB JAKUBEC Suddenly, on December 19, 2003 Greg Jakubec passed away. Greg was survived by and leaves to mourn his wife Pam; his son Chris; his mother Anne; his sister Diana Baran; and nieces and nephews. Born and educated in Winnipeg, Greg pursued a Bachelors Degree in Education and graduated with Honours. It was an avocation for which he was sell suited. Perhaps, one of the greatest gifts that Greg bestowed upon others was that of his time. A truly dedicated family man, we will always remember the endless hours that he spent with his aging parents. Constantly, making time for their needs. When friends, family, students or colleagues needed help, they knew that Greg could be depended upon. This characteristic was best represented by his never ending dedication to his 19 year old son, Chris. Greg had many avid interests and he shared many of them with his son, all the while influencing him with his easy-going, and thoughtful demeanour. Close family were deeply shocked by his sudden passing, but found solace in recounting his goodwill, his good natured humour and his positive way of looking at life. There will long be a void in the family that will not be quickly nor easily filled. Although, Greg was a private man it was not difficult to find those who were willing to express the positive effect that he had on them. A truly gifted and dedicated teacher of some 35 years, Mr. Jakubec unselfishly spent an inordinate amount of time ensuring that students had an opportunity to succeed. That is, when he wasnt coaching the numerous school teams that he was associated with over the past three decades. His professionalism and dedication to teaching went beyond his classroom. Many tireless hours were spent on curriculum and exam development for this province and for Western Canada. He was an integral part of helping to organize the farewell to the graduates of Oak Park High School. Not to mention school committees and wherever he might be asked to volunteer his time, services and expertise. Greg was also passionate about the great outdoors, fishing, canoeing and playing soccer. Those who had the opportunity to be with him during these activities often left with a smile on their face, as would Greg. It is said that life is meant to be lived to the fullest...few of us live up to this adage in the manner that he did. Gregory, you are already sorely missed. Gregory Jakubec was predeceased by his father Jacob (2003) and his brother Michael (1980). We are hoping for a hasty reunion for the three of them. Pallbearers are, Mitchell Jakubec, Cory Jakubec, Howard Baran, Darrell Baran, Bill Baran and Bruce Flook. The memorial service will take place at Immanuel Pentecostal Church at 955 Wilkes, 11:00 a.m. on December 29. There will be a brief reception to follow, and a family attended interment. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Greg Jakubec Scholarship Fund, Oak Park High School, 820 Charleswood Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3R 1K6, and or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
