About	DOROTHY ANNE JANE DERKACH (nee MAKAEFF) With great sadness we announce the passing of Dorothy Derkach at the age of 75 on October 7, 2021. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Brian, sons, Jeff (Aliisa) and Michael (Kimberlee), grandchildren, Asta (Stephen), Kaarina (Mike), Annikki (Devin), Cole, Reid, and Kate. She was also blessed with her great-grandkids, Maisie and Walker. She was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Mary Makaeff. Dorothy was born in Kamsack, SK on September 24, 1946. She grew up on the family farm in Pelly, SK and moved to Winnipeg at an early age, where she attended Sisler High School. She met the love of her life, Brian, and they married in 1967. She was an amazing mom to Jeff and Michael growing up, attending every hockey game they played with her cowbell. She made all her grandchildren feel special. She was always there for her family whether it be to help clean and organize, cook their favourites, have long talks, or to play a competitive game of crazy 8's. She had a knack for decorating and crafting. Her grandkids loved making crafts with her. When Brian retired from CN in 2007 they bought a motor home and travelled the USA together, primarily going to Arizona for half of the year. Arizona was definitely Dorothy's second love. She lived for the winters where she could enjoy the hot weather, visit with family and friends, go shopping for deals, and try to win "big" at bingo. Dorothy struggled with rheumatoid arthritis for many years, but was a very tough, stubborn lady and never let anything slow her down. Her family is at peace knowing that she is no longer in pain. A private interment will take place at Glen Eden with immediate family as per Dorothy's wishes. Her family would like to thank friends and family for the support and well-wishes during this difficult time. In addition, they would like to thank Dr. Zahiri, Stonewall Hospital, and the Health Sciences Centre surgical ICU for their care. As published in Winnipeg Free Press on Oct 09, 2021
