Graduation Year Class of 1962
Date of Passing Dec 26, 2011
About CAROL STEPHENS Carol slipped away on Monday, December 26, 2011, with her family by her side. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and daughter who always put family first. Left to enjoy many happy memories is Bill, her loving husband of 45 years; her son Tim (Cara Gilman); her two beautiful granddaughters, Sara and Hannah; her mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Siwicki, brother Ron Siwicki, and many other friends. Carol is predeceased by her father, Peter Siwicki (GeGe). Mom was born on March 13, 1945, following a family dinner on Chinese food the night before, in downtown Winnipeg. So it is somehow fitting that her last meal was Chinese food on Christmas Eve. Mom grew up in Winnipeg's North End, where she enjoyed many happy times with her family, and attended King Edward and then Sisler High School. While working at MTS in the 1960s, Mom met Dad at a wedding in 1965, and their beautiful, loving marriage began a year later, in 1966. Mom's passions included photography, needlepoint and particularly cooking. Good recipes were always a prized find, and just days before Mom left, she was still reading and marking recipes she wanted to try. Mom was always very proud of her granddaughters. Our Christmas gift this year, was a few last days where we were able to talk about all the great moments we shared, and to give thanks for them. Mom and our family would like to thank Dr. Pat Harris, the staff of Grace CancerCare, the staff of 3 North and particularly 4 South. The personalized care that everyone provided was exceptional and we are grateful to all. Donations gare encouraged to the cancer charity of your choice, or to the Grace Hospital Foundation. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
