About | WILLIAM TEDDY MATWICHYNA (TAT) It is with great and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father on January 9, 2000. Bill was born May 4, 1945 in the north end of Winnipeg to Pavlo and Anastasia Matwichyna who predeceased him. He leaves to mourn and lovingly remember him his wife of 29 years, Vera; son Daniel (Stacey) daughters, Darya, Tanya and Kristya; surrogate son Kirk Fleming; and Samson his trusted pet dog. Surviving also are his brother Michael (Vi) and children, and sister Julia (Roy) and children as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Western Ukraine. Bill (Tat) grew up on Aberdeen Avenue in Pavlo Matwichynas Corner Store. He always had fond memories of life there and reminisced about it often. He attended Lord Nelson school and later Sisler High School where he excelled in sports like football, track and baseball. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Masters degree in Commerce. He later worked at the Bay managing several departments. He went on to work for the Department of Finance for the Federal Government. Later he became the Queens Printer for Manitoba. Bill was an entrepreneur and created and managed many businesses including Slinks, Veras, Cal-Law and Bon Voyage Travel. Bill was a talented handyman. He built a family cottage at Winnipeg Beach which will remain a comforting memory for his family. He loved his trips to Jamaica where he became the Big Bamboo. He will be sadly missed by his followers. Even though his business achievements were vast he will be most fondly remembered as the best DAD in the world. His role as "Mr. Mom" is now legendary. He was most instrumental in encouraging his children to reach their unique potential in school, sports and career. Tat always had time for homework, team coaching and car pooling. He was a member and Treasurer of the parents committee at Plast Youth Organization, and a life long member of Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Bills passing was due to the cruel effects of cancer and its harsh treatment. But because of that he leaves us with a priceless legacy. He led us to the Bio-Pulse Clinic where cancer is being successfully treated humanly, without pain or immune destruction. For this we are eternally grateful. His dream was to some day be a healer and now that dream has come true. The very essence of Bill was his kind and generous nature and his commitment to his family, church and community. There was simply no challenge too great or task too trivial as Bill volunteered his time, inspiring others with his great leadership and personal example. We thank God for you. You have left behind your pain and fly free. We love you Tat and carry you in our hearts forever. A huge Thank You to Mama and Tato Melnycky for caring so lovingly for Bill during his recovery from chemotherapy. To sister-in-law Nina Melnychuk who kept things running smoothly when support was needed and to Dr. Chris Turner for his help in extending Bills life naturally. Prayers will be sung 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16 at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 965 Boyd Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 17, also at the church, followed by interment at Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Ogaranko, George Luchka, Steve Kisil, Kirk Fleming, Nestor Budyk and Sidney Cherewyck. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Fleming, Frank Cremer, Gary Mangino, Florian Pfund and Tony Nawolski. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to: Help us help the children, The William T. Matwichyna scholarship fund at North Winnipeg Credit Union or the Foundation for Natural Healing, in care of Dr. Turner.
