About JOAN A. E. WARKENTIN Peacefully on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at St. Boniface General Hospital, with her loving husband at her side, Joan Warkentin went to be with her Lord and Saviour. Joan was born in Winnipeg to Walter and Lena Beare on May 13, 1945. She was raised by relatives, as her parents both passed away at early ages. She attended Sisler High School, after which she joined the workforce and got her first job at Forum Bookstore in Winnipeg. She then became the Secretary in the Interior Design Studio at Eaton's of Canada where she worked until 1970. She met and then married Ernie Warkentin in 1968. They made Winnipeg their home from that day forward, living most of this time in the south east end of the city, and in August 2011 moved into their most recent home in Southdale, renovated especially for Joan and Toby, by her hubby. Joan will be best remembered for her loving, quiet, giving, gracious, and caring nature, with a deep love and compassion for others. As one friend remarked on Saturday A dear sweet soul has left this earth today , and was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord Jesus Christ. She committed her life to the Lord in 1998, in whom she found not only her salvation, but her love for life, her compassion for others, in being a friend to countless people whose lives she touched in a very special way. She shared her love for others, and with her husband, used their cottages at Lake of the Woods and West Hawk Lake as a place for sharing, relaxing and fellowship with family and friends. Many of their nephews and children of friends grew up enjoying summertime at their cottages. Joan displayed a great love of wildlife and all animals, and which was evident in her great love for her dog Toby, her big yellow labrador retriever, and her constant companion, especially over the last year of her illness. Joan possessed an incredible joy for life and was rarely seen without a smile on her face, and was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Joan will be deeply missed by her loving husband, by Toby, her family, and by her countless friends and church family. All who knew her will cherish her memory. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Boniface General Hospital and CancerCare for all their kindnesses. A celebration of life for Joan will be held at Southlands Community Church, 85 Keslar Road in Fort Garry, on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make a donation to either the Winnipeg Humane Society or Samaritan's Purse (for Kids) in Joan's memory. In tears I saw you sinking, I watched you fade away. You endured much in silence, You fought so hard to stay. You faced your mission with courage, Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired, When a change was not to be, So He put his arms around you, And whispered, Come to Me . So when I saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free from pain, I could not wish you back, To endure yet again. You didn't deserve what you went through, So He took you home to rest, God's garden must be beautiful, For He only takes the best.
